Surmai Tawa Fry, Seer Fish Tawa Fry Recipe
Here is an easy Surmai Tawa fry recipe for you. In this recipe, only a handful of ingredients are required. The end result is quite amazing and mouth watering.
Surmai Tawa fry / Seer Fish Tawa fry is quite a popular dish in all parts of India. Here is a simple recipe that I have put together which is less time consuming and yet is very tasty.
This recipe requires only a few ingredients that should be easily available in any kitchen. You can either have directly or it goes well with Chapati or rice.

- 400 grams - Seer Fish (Surmai Sliced)
- 1 tbsp - Salt
- 3 tbsp - Red Chilli Powder
- 5 tbsp - Ginger Garlic Paste
- 2 tbsp - Fish Masala (Any brand will do)
- 4 tbsp - Lemon Juice
- 1 tbsp - Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 Cup - Rice Flour
- 1/2 cup - Rawa
- 5 tbsp - Oil
1: Wash the Surmai pieces in running water. Ensure that you clean them properly.
2: Next, sprinkle some lemon juice and turmeric powder over the pieces. Mix well and keep this aside for around 10 minutes.
3: Now the next step is to prepare the marinade. For this you will need Fish Masala, Ginger Garlic Paste, salt and red chilli powder.
In a small bowl take 5 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste, red chilli powder, salt and fish masala. Mix all the ingredients well until you get a fine paste.
4: Next, apply the paste that was created in the previous step to the fish pieces. Ensure that every side of the fish gets coated with the marinade.
After you are done, keep this in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. If you have spare time, you can also keep this for 1-2 hours.
5: In a frying pan / thick tawa, heat around 5-6 tbsp Oil. In a plate mix rava(Semolina), Rice Flour and 1 tbsp of Salt. This will be used to coat the fish pieces before frying them in the pan.
Coat the fish pieces with the flour mixture and place them in the tawa.
6: Fry each side of the fish on a medium flame for 5 minutes.
7: After 10-12 minutes, your Surmai tawa fry should be ready. Serve this with a slice of lemon and chopped onions.
